Friday 1 July 2022 - Munich
Overnight it occurred to me that we are a short walk from the train station. I could just walk over and make the booking. So, there I was at 7:30 AM trying to make it happen. The agent shook his head gravely and said he did not think he could do it from there, which strikes me as odd because people from all over the world can book train tickets over the internet. Anyway, he clacked away at his keyboard for a while and finally pronounced that no, he could not make it happen. When I got back, I found an email from Tyler that he had been able to book a Lufthansa flight direct to Munich on the morning of Sunday July 3 at a cost of 1,200 British Pounds. Our instructions were to do whatever it takes and that is what it took. So, they arrive three days late, but get to spend two of them touring London. We will just have to drink our beer in Munich very quickly in the time available to us.
Carla and Tyler were stuck in his cousin’s apartment for much of the day because they did not know the trick to lock the door. But they turned their lemons into lemonade by buying tickets to the “Back to the Future” musical in London’s West End and managed a pub or two. Apparently, Canada day is a big deal for ex-pats living in London.
Cool and overcast with drizzle and light rain all day today in Munich. We decided to spend most of our day underground exploring the complex of stores and snack shops under the nearby main intersection. Some of the stores are the lower level of multi-story department stores. We picked up a few souvenirs and gifts for the grandchildren. Happy Canada Day!
