Wednesday 29 June and Thursday 30 June 2022 - Regina to Munich (sort of)
Carla called back to Viking and after several hours was able to get Regina to London to Frankfurt to Munich. Problem solved, or so we thought.
We all departed Regina together close to our scheduled 2:15 departure time and arrived in Toronto almost on time.
Their flight out of Toronto was delayed by several
hours (probably due to the chaos of arrivals screening at Toronto delaying
their arriving aircraft), so they missed their connection in London despite a
seemingly comfortable 3+30 planned layover time. In the meantime, British
Airways, which had got them to London, was in chaos with cancelled flights and
backlogged passengers awaiting rescheduling. Also, Lufthansa, which was
supposed to get them to Frankfurt and Munich, had just cancelled 2,200 flights
out of Frankfurt and Munich for the month of July. Carla and Tyler waited in
line to re-book for over six hours until British airways shut down the desk and
said there is nothing we can do for you, find your own way. We were looking
into booking a train ride but were not able to make a telephone/internet
connection to make the booking. Fortunately, Tyler has a cousin in London that
they were able to connect with and who put them up for the night.
We went for an exploratory walk and stumbled across this shrine to Michael Jackson outside a hotel where he once stayed and built upon a monument to some forgotten dignitary.
Thursday was very warm and sunny with a bit of afternoon thundershower in Munich.
