Riviera Maya Saturday 18 Feb 2012
We decided almost a year ago that
we would like to take a family vacation similar to our houseboat trip in 2008.
After some investigation, we concluded that the Riviera Maya, south of Cancun,
would fit our needs. We had to arrange the timing around everyone’s schedules.
It turned out that Tyler was the one with the least flexibility, so we worked
around his school break. After the mild winter we have had so far, it almost
seems like we are being cheated by not escaping a deep freeze.
After reminding everyone to be
sure to bring their e-tickets, I left ours behind. I packed it in a folder last
night, but took the folder out of my bag this morning and neglected to put it
back. Fortunately, the staff at WestJet were able to reprint the whole thing,
including the hotel voucher and the return air portion. Having been thus
shocked and confused, we rushed off to security screening.
We had made a plan for everyone
to get to the airport, but had not made any plan to meet up once there. While
Celeste and I waited in the secure area wondering where the kids were, Carla,
Tyler, Laura, and Brett were elsewhere in the terminal wondering where we were!
Eventually we all gathered together in the waiting room.
Our flight departed on time at
about 2:30 pm and arrived at Cancun five hours later (same time zone).
Immigration, customs, and a short wait on the bus took an hour and the ride to our
resort was another hour. After settling in our rooms, we met at the 24 hour
snack bar for a bite to eat, had a brief look around and returned to our rooms
by about 11.30. Carla, never the best traveler, was not feeling real well, but
fortunately, not real sick either.
